Githunguri MP claims political plot behind Gachagua's impeachment

Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has accused the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of being part of a wider political conspiracy to silence his growing influence in Mt. Kenya.

Speaking in an interview with KTN on Thursday, December 5, 2024, Wamuchomba argued that impeachment was not a political misjudgment but a calculated act by some political characters to weaken his political grip in the region.

"First of all, you should be asking yourself, why was he impeached? The events surrounding his impeachment are still influencing the political landscape today," Wamuchomba said.

According to Wamuchomba, the former deputy president's growing political influence was an indictment of the rest of the political players in the region, with 2027 being just a few years ahead.

"Some feel that Gachagua is the one who will bar their way in 2027," she explained.

Wamuchomba further went on to highlight the manner in which Gachagua is in a position to garner massive, loyal following in Mt. Kenya; what she termed as "the magic of putting together a very big following in the mountain."

The strong following is what she said makes these other political figures queasy, because they know how it can disrupt their plans for the upcoming elections.

Wamuchomba also painted the picture of political tension and fear, saying many in that region are living in fear.

"We are sleeping in fear. We are driving in fear. We are not even going to churches anymore because we fear that we might be abducted along the way," she said, implying it has become so charged politically that even everyday activities for some are not safe.

Gachagua has over time been in the news, growing as one of the key men from the region.

A fact that is creating great talk about changing political guardianship in the Kenyan highlands. 

The 2027 election is nigh, with rivalry heightened among political titans in Mt. Kenya as Gachagua stands out again in this rivalry.
