Sudi responds to Gachagua,s remarks amid political tension
By Robert Mutasi
In response to accusations of political persecution through the criminal justice system, Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi hit back at Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua Thursday, September 26, 2024.
Gachagua took to his verified social media handles to say he was targeted in a plot entailing trumped-up charges and impeachment schemes by forces close to the government.
Sudi, a vocal ally of President William Ruto, accused Gachagua of being the mastermind of a failed political coup against the President.
"My boss, it's no longer a secret that you're the mastermind behind the dead-on-arrival plan to oust our President," Sudi declared in an angry statement shared on his verified social media pages.
It was linked to the violent protests and demonstrations that have rocked different parts of the country in recent months.
"Young men lost their lives in the streets, and those who were imprisoned were some of the aftermath of the money you poured out for sponsoring demos," he claimed, "and now you pretend like you're fighting for them!" Sudi told Gachagua he was the chief financier of these protests. Sudi did not hold back, first telling Gachagua that were it not for the respect the government had for his office, he would be facing legal consequences for his actions: "Save for the respect we have for your office, you belong in jail."
Kapseret MP Sudi accused Gachagua of misusing upcoming political figures such as James Gakuya, Alfred Keter, and Benjamin Gathiru for his own personal agenda.
He said Gachagua was out to ensure promising young leaders like Kimani Ichung'wah, Ndindi Nyoro, Cecily Mbarire, and many others never made it in politics.
He added and cautioned Gachagua against using the Mt. Kenya region for political mileage.
"Don't hide your ill intentions by attempting to box Mt. Kenya people into a tribal cocoon," he warned, condemning what he perceived as tribalistic and selfish rhetoric. According to Sudi, Gachagua's actions were not in the best interest of Kenyans but motivated by personal ambitions.
He concluded by saying: "We know what you're planning… but we are ready. Tuko macho mbaya sana," Sudi concluded, signaling a readiness to counter any future political manoeuvres by the Deputy President.
This back-and-forth between the two key political figures in Kenya Kwanza has increased the already cold relationship, setting up the alliance for deeper cracks into the 2027 elections.
