A suspected motorbike thief was today lynched at his home in Mundulusia area, Matayos sub county in Busia for being among the gang that has terrorized the riders for a long time.
After escaping many traps by police and manhunt by bodaboda operators, today the suspect identified as Robert was caught unaware early this morning after the riders were tipped by the neighbors of his whereabouts.
Confirming the incident, Busia police commander Maxwell Nyaema challenged the residents not to take the law into their hands but instead give police a chance to complete their investigations.
The deceased was found in possession of a police uniform, crude weapons among other items believed he had been using to carry out his operations.
In recent days, Busia County has been on the spotlight following mysterious deaths of bodaboda operators and the disappearance of their motorbikes.
Last Month, Teso South MP Mary Emase moved a motion in parliament on the rise of insecurity in Busia County demanding a response from the ministry of interior over the killing of a bodaboda operator.
During the visit by Interior CS Prof Kidiki to Busia, the CS promised to smoke out all criminal gangs from their hideouts adding that there will be no chances for dialogue with them.
Two other suspects identified by the suspect Erick Makokha who was former bodaboda chairman and his accomplice James Owire managed to escape and they are still at large.
The residents are now faulting the police for not taking action despite receiving reports of cases of robbery and mysterious death of several bodaboda operators.
However, the former bodaboda chairman has distanced himself from the crime noting that he was being targeted for political reasons.
