Two suspects accused of breaking into a shop and stealing Sh 549,000 have been arraigned before a Kabarnet court charged with theft.

Benard Angasngas and Ngariwan Ngoriaduma are said to have on January 16, 2024, at an unknown time at Nakoko village, Silale ward of Tiaty constituency, broken into the shop of Susan Kamama and stolen the money.

They appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate (SPM) Purity Koskey on Tuesday and were charged with breaking into a building and committing a felony contrary to section 306(a) of the penal code.

Angasngas on the other hand faces a second and third count of resisting arrest contrary to section 103 (a) of the NPS Act by throwing stones at police officers and dishonestly retaining Sh 22,000 knowingly or having reason to believe to be proceeds of stolen goods.

When the charges were read to them the duo denied committing the offences.

“I had two phones, they were taken away by the police officers who were sent to arrest us, I’m sick, I was assaulted by police officers, I have not so far been treated, I need some time to undergo medication in order for me to heal,” Angasngas alleged.

The magistrate in her ruling ordered the two to be released on a bond of Sh 200,000 cash bail each with a surety of the same amount.

At the same time, SPM ordered that the victims be taken to Baringo County Referral Hospital, Kabarnet, for treatment.
