Top KCPE candidate, school director react to exam results

By Judy Jerono It was pomp and glamour at St. Petroc Premier School in Embu County after the institution posted exemplary performance in the Kenya Certificate of primary Education (KCPE) examinations released by the Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha on Monday, March 28, 2022. Located in Runyenjes in Embu County, St. Petroc Premier School which is a Christian day and boarding school, has over the years steadily evolved to become a reputable Centre of Excellence and among the best performing school within Embu County and Central Kenya at large. The school produced one of the top candidates in the 2021 KCPE exams. She holds future ambitions of being an engineer. She scored 410 marks having garnered 85A in English, 85A in Kiswahili, Maths 85A, Science 76A-, and 79A- in SSR. Speaking to Nairobi Review, the school director, Mary Muthoni attributed the outstanding performance to teamwork between parents, guardians, students, teachers, subordinate staff and other stakeholders at the school. Ms Muthoni stated that she is proud the school is living up to its reputation of producing whole-rounded academic giants. She applauded the staff whom she says are very committed and cooperative in ensuring that the students produce the best results. The director noted that the institution improved from last year’s performance where the top pupil had 408 marks. “We have improved from last year’s top child who scored 408 marks to 410 marks in this year’s results and equally in the overall. Our next target is to see that all the candidates will score 400 marks and above going by their capability” she said Mrs. Muthoni who is also the president of Women in Business Kenya (WIB), said the school expected the candidates to perform well since they had prepared them extremely well and on time adding that the school is a hub of academic excellence cum spiritual growth centre and nurturing life skills and talents among pupils. “We had no doubt since our pupils were well prepared. A lot of man power had to be put in place with teachers marking extra work” she stated. In April 2014, President Uhuru Kenyatta adopted a young girl, Emily Wanjiru and enrolled her at St. Petroc Premier School after transferring her from Gachororo Primary School in Juja, Kiambu County. Uhuru was impressed by the young girl's exemplary performance when she recited a poem at the Kenya Music Festivals. He adopted her and promised to pay her school fees up to the university level. She was escorted to the school and enrolled by President Kenyatta's cousin, Jomo Gecaga.
