The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party has summoned Embu senatorial aspirant Norman Nyaga and Manyatta MP John Muchiri Nyaga over the burning of nomination materials in the county on Wednesday, April 13, 2022.
In letters sent to the two, UDA’s disciplinary committee noted that complaints had been filed against them in relation to the destruction of party’s poll materials.
The two have been summoned to appear before UDA’s disciplinary committee for a hearing on Saturday April 16, 2022.
“The party is seized with video footage as well as information, material and other evidence which links you with the aforementioned criminal activity in gross violation of the Party Constitution and Code of Conduct,” the letter signed by Paul Karuga, head of UDA’s disciplinary committee read in part.
Additionally, the party noted that if found guilty, the two risk being disqualified from the ongoing nominations exercise and expelled completely from the party.
“Further, be informed that if the accusations against you as herein above specified are proved at the hearing, the consequences thereof are grave and include disqualification from participating in the nomination process, suspension or even expulsion from the Party.,” the letter read in part.
Norman Nyaga is seeking the senatorial seat while Muchiri is seeking to be Embu’s next governor on a UDA ticket. Muchiri is set to face off with Nominated MP Cecily Mbarire.
On Wednesday, a lorry transporting UDA election material was attacked by rowdy youth who destroyed some of the polling material by setting it on fire.
Meanwhile, the party has dispatched a delegation of leaders led by Elgeyo MarakwetSsenator Kipchuba urkomen to examine the situation on the ground and help avert any crisis that ay occur as a result of the Wednesday incident.
