Turkana, USAID Nawiri validate data needs for unified GIS System

Turkana County Chief Officer for Economic Planning, John Korikel has led other area Chief Officers in validating the data needs assessment dissemination report for a unified Geographic Information System data needs, further strengthening the existing partnership between the County and USAID Nawiri.
Once finalised, the report will help in enhancing data-driven decision making while promoting strategic development in the County.
The meeting was convened by USAID Nawiri with support from the Environmental System Research Institute (ESRI).
The meeting was primarily to improve the Department of Planning’s understanding of the data needs assessment report, engage the other Departments and gather their input to the report.
The collaborative approach is aimed at ensuring the report accurately reflects the needs, challenges, and aspirations of each Department.
"Through this participatory process, we are not only building a common understanding, but also learning from the expertise of Departments to refine the report,” Korikel said.
He further explained that the module will improve resource allocation and Departmental accountability and that it will ensure the Governor’s commitment to provide Turkana residents with a decent life is realised.
While leading the USAID Nawiri team, the Monitoring and Evaluation Lead, Martin Mailosi, emphasised the significance of the collaborative effort in achieving sustainability even after USAID Nawiri leaves.
"We are bridging the gap between data and action. The engagement of Departments enriches the report, making it a comprehensive tool for informed decision-making in fighting malnutrition," Mailosi stated.
Everton Namasake, Industry Manager said “the validation ensures its relevance to our unique challenges and opportunities. This process fosters a unified vision for the county's progress."
In attendance were Chief Officers including Korea Etelej (ECD and Social Protection) and Illikwel James (Finance) among others.
