A section of county Assembly elected leaders from the UDA party have opposed the formation of a Maasai political party claiming that the Maasai community were already members of the ruling party.
Speaking during the Narok UDA delegates meeting, Sonkoi Lemein, the majority leader Narok county assembly said that Narok county is dominantly a UDA zone citing the large number of members from the county.
“Narok county is a UDA zone because the majority of our leaders were elected on the UDA party tickets, starting from the governor, women representative and even the county assembly is dominated by UDA,” he said.
Lemein added that Narok North sub county was thought to be an opposition area, but has recently shifted to UDA as such Narok county is now fully behind the ruling party.
The majority leader also said that he detests the formation of a Maasai political party and that Narok cannot be part of that party.
He appreciated the high number of registration that the UDA party has been able to achieve in the county and also recognized the number of defectors in the party.
He urged the youth to come out and contest for various positions and urged the community as a whole to register as members of the UDA party.
Isaac Kool, a defector to the UDA party said, he will lead other defectors from Narok North sub county to join in the effort of making the sub-county a UDA zone so as to rip the benefits from the government.
Kool added that he will not be part of the new purported Maasai Political party and that the Narok North sub county is on the verge of becoming a full UDA party zone.
