United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party officials in Homa Bay County have embarked on an aggressive party popularisation drive in a bid to boost party membership in the region.
The UDA officials led by the youth leader Kevin Ouma took their campaigns to Rangwe Constituency over the weekend where they appealed to area residents to join them.
Ahead of the campaign drive, the party officials conducted an election of the party youth league in the constituency. They elected officials at the constituency level and in four wards in the area.
In the election presided over by the county UDA Co-coordinator John Odek, Peter Angunyo was elected the Rangwe Constituency Youth League Chairman.
David Ochola and Everline Nyoiro were elected Secretary and Treasurer respectively.
In ward election, Maurice Ouma was elected the youth league Chairman in Kagan ward, Evance Otieno (Kochia), Joseph Odhiambo (West Gem) and Michael Ogeda (East Gem).
Kevin Ouma who quit his position of ODM youth leader and decamped to UDA a few months ago said they were mobilising young people in the county to join UDA.
“We are in talks with young people in the ODM party to join us in UDA. We welcome everybody in this county to join UDA because this is the political party that looks at the welfare of the youth,” Ouma said.
Odek on his part said the elections were aimed at putting structures in place to ensure UDA gets the support of at least 50 percent of Homa Bay county voters by 2027.
“The structures we are putting in place are aimed at ensuring UDA is a vibrant political party in this region,” said Odek.
He appealed to residents of the county to take a shift in politics and prioritise development.
Angunyo echoed the sentiments saying that time had come for residents of Homa Bay to embrace politics focused on development rather than mere rhetoric.
He said politicians have been using the youth and dumping them once they ascend to power.
“Let us now focus on politics with the agenda of improving the lives of the youth by joining UDA,” Angunyo said.
Ochola appealed to the Kenya Kwanza Government to empower the youth so that they do not feel neglected.
“I appeal to the government to assist the youth in this county. We don’t want our youth to feel dumped and neglected,” Ochola said
