Vihiga County sustains campaign to tackle diabetes in children

The Vihiga County Government in collaboration with the Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) Alliance of Kenya, is supporting the diabetic children in the County.

The County initiated quarterly clinics for children suffering from Type 1 diabetes in 2018 with three of them, where the number has risen to 51 this year.

The Vihiga County Referral Hospital (VCRH) Medical Superintendent, Dr. Victor Zimbulu, says under the Changing Diabetes in Children (CDiC) programme, the beneficiaries are given therapies and advised on diet and exercise.

Dr. Zimbulu, who spoke during the quarterly review meeting at the VCRH, Monday, called on the parents and guardians, to take children for early screening for timely placement on medication.

Type 1 diabetes results from the failure of the pancreas to produce insulin, which regulates the blood sugar levels in the body.
