West Pokot governor Simon Kachapin has unveiled the third County Integrated Development Project (CIDP) 2023-2027, an important document that will address key development issues in alignment with his manifesto and the needs of the community.
The governor said the document will steer the county government's development projects and agenda in line with his manifesto, which reiterates his government’s dedication to promoting the prosperity of its residents by providing them with access to quality and affordable healthcare, education, infrastructure, and agriculture.
While making his address at Srumben Boarding Primary School in Masol ward, Sigor constituency, Kachapin emphasized that the launched third County Integrated Development Project (CIDP) serves as a testament to his unwavering dedication and the county government’s relentless efforts in addressing the pressing needs of the community.
‘‘Each of the county government departments was diligent in prioritizing the most crucial projects as identified by the community, with the intention of implementing them effectively,’’ Governor Kachapin stated
The governor said the central focus of the third county integrated development project is to propel the county’s plan towards its development trajectory.
‘‘Third CIDP for 2023–2027 launched aims at unlocking opportunities for sustainable growth and development, particularly for residents who have been severely affected by the adverse impacts of drought and marginalization,’’ Governor Kachapin said
He went on: ‘‘CIDP aims to foster the growth of healthcare, education, water, roads, agriculture, and infrastructure, as well as women and youth empowerment, in a region that is plagued by the detrimental impacts of drought and marginalization.’’
He said the success of the implementation of CIDP will be achieved through the economic empowerment of individuals at all levels, following a bottom-up economic model.
The governor earnestly requested the assistance of development partners and investors in order to fulfill his administration’s commitment to effectively utilize the county’s resources as outlined in the manifesto.
Governor Kachapin stated that his administration will strive to fairly distribute the resources at hand, aiming to achieve balanced development throughout the county. Additionally, he emphasized the implementation of evaluation systems to ensure the timely execution of projects.
He expressed his gratitude to the county teams for their valuable contribution to the creation of the third CIDP document.
‘‘I would like to acknowledge the department of finance and economic planning for their guidance and coordination throughout the entire process in coming up with the third CIDP document,’’ he said.
Governor Kachapin said the document has successfully undergone multiple stages, including public participation forums held across the county, which allowed for the inclusion of the community’s input.
The launch of the CIDP event saw the governor commission Srumben Health Centre, Srumben Primary Boarding, and Srumben Solar-Powered Borehall.
The Deputy Governor (DG), Robert Komolle, emphasized the significance of collaboration between the government and partner stakeholders to effectively execute the CIDP plan for the county government.
He further urged various departments to prioritize the timely execution of the CIDP plan.
West Pokot County Commissioner Apollo Okello encouraged residents and leaders to wholeheartedly embrace peace and security in order to ensure the successful implementation of the government-initiated projects.
He said that with peace and security, locals would truly experience the benefits of the projects initiated by the government, considering the significant resources invested by the government.
CC Okello emphasized the importance of collaboration with development partners to enhance devolution and facilitate efficient coordination of programs throughout the county.
Sigor constituency Member of Parliament Peter Lochakapong said that in an effort to ensure there are enough security officers to protect the residents from bandit attacks, he has constructed a police station in Chesogon and Amolem and also assisted the General Service Unit police officer to settle in the Lami Nyeausi area.
MP Lochakapong urged the government to deploy the gazetted National Police Reservists (NPRs) in an effort to tame banditry in West Pokot, Turkana, and Elgeyo Marakwet counties.
The MP lauded the governor for launching projects in his constituency, noting that such projects are geared towards empowering the community, which for a long time has been disadvantaged by the effects of climate change and marginalization.
According to MP Lochakapong, the establishment of a health center, primary school, and solar-powered borehole are activities that promote the well-being of his constituents by ensuring good health, food security, income generation, and sustainability of livelihoods.
He said that the residents of Masol ward and its surrounding areas can now have a sigh of relief as a hospitals, primary boarding school, and solar powered borehole have been officially commissioned for their use.
The launch was also attended by Senator Julius Murgor and Women Representative Rael Aleutum who urged the government to deploy gazetted National Police Reservists.
