Westlands MP Timothy Wanyonyi has insisted on his 2027 gubernatorial aspirations in Nairobi and did so by making a strong pronouncement, that indeed his journey to City Hall is well on course.

While addressing a community event in Westlands Constituency on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, Wanyonyi expressed his confidence in securing overwhelming support from his constituency.

"My journey to City Hall in 2027 is still on. I expect Westlands to give me 100 percent of the vote," Wanyonyi affirmed, insisting that he was still in the race for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat.

The MP, who first declared his interest in the seat during the 2022 general election, recounted how he was prevailed upon to shelve his ambitions at the time.

"I wanted to be the governor of Nairobi in 2022, but I was told to wait. This time, nobody will tell us to wait," he affirmed, insinuating that he is bent on pursuing the top leadership role without hindrance.

Wanyonyi reiterated that his candidature is propelled by urgency and a feeling that his time for service has come.

"They cannot stop an idea whose time has come," he said, referring to his notion that his quest for governorship is inevitable.

The Westlands MP confessed to having resistance from all corners, including members of his own political party.

However, he remained defiant with his candidature, promising to surmount the challenges.

"I have so many enemies, including in my party, who keep saying that I will not be the governor of Nairobi. But this time, if they stand in our way, we will bypass them," he said in a defiant tone.

Wanyonyi's speech also touched on his key priorities should he be elected to become Nairobi's governor, promising to focus on youth empowerment and protection of business owners from harassment.

"I will take care of the interests of the youth and protect businesspeople from harassment," he said, insinuating how pro-business and pro-youth his policies will be if he happens to clinch that seat.

Wanyonyi's announcement now sets the stage for a competitive race in the upcoming 2027 general elections, pitting him against several high-profile candidates.

With his resilience and message of reform, Westlands MP had thrown himself as a frontrunner for the governorship of Nairobi.
