Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced that Uhuru Park will be open to the public on Mashujaa Day, October 20, 2024.

He however clarified that the park will not be exclusively reservable for private events during public holidays.

"Uhuru Park has been OPEN and remains OPEN to the public EVERY DAY. Every Kenyan is allowed to come and is welcome to enjoy their Park. You can also book for events.

A public park is, however, NOT available to be RESERVED for exclusive use during a PUBLIC HOLIDAY. Other Kenyans will also want to enjoy. It can be reserved on any other day. Kujeni tu mmoja mmoja mjae hakuna haja ya kuomba."Sakaja said.

This comes amidst plans by Comedian Eric Omondi, to hold an event on the same day to honour the victims of this year's anti-government protests.

The planned occasional is seen as a rival event to the National Mashujaa celebrations set to be held in Kwale stadium amongst other county celebrations.

Omondi said the Uhuru park event will honor Gen-Z's who lost their lives to police bullets during the occupy Parliament protests and Anti-Finance bill Demos that rocked various parts of the country.

“As they celebrate Mashujaa Day on October 20, we will also host a mega event to celebrate our heroes! Our shujaas!” Omondi declared in his post.

According to data by the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) re 39 people were killed during the protests.

Meanwhile, Civic Activist and leader of INJECT party, Morara Kebaso has planned a different event in Narok County calling on his supporters to attend.

Morara has questioned the credibility of the planned Uhuru park event raising questions on it's sponsors.
