Gachagua alleges plot to oust him
By Robert Mutasi
Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that a group of his political opponents want to remove him via the legislative process.
Speaking to the public on Friday, September 20, 2024 at Marikiti Market, Gachagua claims that some MPs have received financial support for efforts to remove him from office and replace him with a "puppet" leader who will better serve their interests.
"They are threatening me that they would mobilize MPs to kick me out and install their puppet. They have given these MPs money to sell me fear," Gachagua told the crowd.
He brushed off these threats, declaring that only the Kenyan people, who elected him, have the power to remove him from his position.
" I was elected by Kenyans, and they are the ones to remove me from my seat when the time comes," he said.
These words by Gachagua somehow ring as self-defense in the face of political tension and growing rumors about dissatisfaction within some political quarters.
During the speech, the Deputy President talked about the current congestion menace in Nairobi's CBD, pointing out what he described as hypocrisy from critics.
He referred to the considerable support he received during the campaign period, especially in traders and residents of Wakulima market.
"When we were campaigning at Wakulima market, there were lots of people, and nobody complained. Now that we got their many votes, it is now said that there is congestion in the CBD. Why didn't anybody complain when they were bringing their many votes?" Gachagua asked rhetorically.
A section of MPs from Mount Kenya alleged to gather together with an aim of preparing impeachment plan against DP Gachagua.
Moreso, the relationship between Gachagua and President William Ruto is not good.
Besides that, there is political tension over Gachagua, which further complicates the evolving political landscape of Kenya, with the Deputy President signaling his readiness to take whatever comes his way.
