Kenya regaining power to dominate under Ruto - Ngunyi

By Peter Ochieng

Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has applauded president William Ruto for a well organised inaugural Africa Climate Summit (ACS).

The summit which started on Monday, ends today at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), with over 10 Heads of State and Government having been among the about 30, 000 delegates in attendance.

Ngunyi, who recently shifted his support from the Raila Odinga led Azimio La Umoja One Kenya to president Ruto's Kenya Kwanza Alliance, says the success of the Summit means Kenya is regaining its power to dominate.

Ruto has been in office for a year, having been sworn in as Kenya's 5th president on 5th September, 2023.

"One year after Ruto took over, Kenya is regaining its Libido Dominandi (the urge to dominate). And #ACS23 is testament to this. You cannot argue with the smooth execution of this meeting," Ngunyi said in a statement on X, former Twitter.

He said due to the smooth planning, Odinga could not fail to make his way to KICC.

"Even Babaman (Raila Odinga) could not resist attending. I liked his cheeky entrance. Only baba can do this," he added.

University Don and political analyst Herman Manyora also commended the president for a summit well executed.

"Congratulations, Your Excellency President @WilliamsRuto, for successfully hosting the Africa Climate Summit," he said.

However, some Kenyans who reacted to Manyora's post on X said the president cannot take credit for success of the summit.

"Kenya hosted the Africa Climate Summit. Ruto only happened to be the head of the administration of the state at the time it happened. Your statement is an example of reasons why so many people who make things happen are underpaid," said one of them.

On the first day of the summit on Monday, Ruto gave counties Sh7.2 billion in form of climate action grants.
