Poised to raise a notch higher in terms of governance and accountability within the public service in Kenya, Felix Koskei, Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service announced the unveiling of a new Capacity Building Programme.

Koskei was speaking during the opening of the keynote address to a galaxy of Board Chairs, CEOs, and Heads of Internal Audit from different Regulatory Authorities and Agencies at the Kenya School of Government, KSG Lower Kabete.

The new program, borne of collaboration between KSG and the Office of the Head of Public Service, is to be designed to ensure that the regulators have the capacity to live up to current standards for effective and modern governance.

"The Capacity Building Programme will equip regulators with the tools needed to navigate the complexities of modern governance," Koskei said.

"This move demonstrates our commitment to increase efficiency, accountability, and excellence in the delivery of public service." Koskei said.

Koskei also noted that equal efforts are being made to enhance internal audit systems within the country.

In this regard, the government is promoting what it calls the "Zero Fault Audit" campaign.

The campaign aims at raising the bar on standards of audit accuracy and transparency in public institutions.

"The Zero Fault Audit campaign is designed to enhance internal audits, ensuring public institutions operate with full transparency and accountability. This is vital to the general efficiency of the public service," he added.

The program is expected to have wide repercussions in the public service by way of ensuring that all the regulatory bodies involved have the appropriate governance skills to discharge their functions accordingly.

This program will also contribute to enhancing the general framework of governance in Kenya through the promotion of internal audit capacity and ensuring that public resources are put to appropriate use and institutions remain accountable to the public.

Koskei added that the reforms were part of President William Ruto's bigger agenda for public service reform and would ensure the elimination of inefficiency, mismanagement, and corruption.

He called upon leaders to fully exploit training opportunities availed by the new programme.

Many in the public sector have welcomed this announcement with several officials praising the commitment of the government towards continuous professional development and improved governance.

The Capacity Building Programme is part of the very important phase in modernization of Kenyan Public Service and creation of the culture of accountability, efficiency, and excellence within its regulatory agencies.
