How WI-FI connectivity will impact Kenyans
By Robert Mutasi
President William Ruto has revealed that WI-FI connectivity will benefit Kenyans, especially in the online business sector.
Speaking during the Linzi Sukuk Bell-Ringing Ceremony Nairobi Securities Exchange on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, he explained that WI-FI will enable many Kenyans to embrace digital jobs.
He has promised Kenyans that he is making efforts to ensure connectivity is everywhere so that it is accessible by every Kenyan.
He has also promised to negotiate with companies dealing with online jobs around the world to provide Kenyans with employment opportunities.
He also said Kenyans will benefit from e-commerce activities, e-trading, and space to trade on government bonds and government securities.
"As we deliver internet, as we deliver WI-FI, as we make much more accessible, then it can be made a useful address to digital jobs," he said.
"We are working around the globe to make sure it is accessible, we can do more e-commerce, e-trading, more space to trade on government bonds, on government securities, shares in the stock of exchange, or at security exchange or many of those aspects," he stated.
Ruto has urged Kenyans, especially young people, to use the opportunity to benefit themselves and not just use it for other things that are not important in their lives.
He has ridiculed the way young people of the new generation are misusing the internet, especially for the incitement of violence.
He has advised them to use the connection to earn income and stop attacking the leaders in power.
Ruto is confident that the WI-FI connection will greatly benefit the youth by improving their lives.
Digital jobs are looking to solve the challenges of unemployment among Kenyans with the majority being young people.
"I think to be at very good experience different from what is going on now. I think that platform is being used more on 'greeting' (attacking). Sometimes you become the architecture of your own behaviours," he admitted.
"When we deliver the WI-FI across Kenya and made free, we intended to be used for a good purpose for people to access e-commerce space to work on that internet but sometimes it is used to send us encouragement messages," Ruto said.
President Ruto launched Ajira Digital program as one way of solving unemployment issues by providing job opportunities in the digital space.
