President Ruto urges cooperation among government arms

President William Ruto called for increased cooperation between Kenya's independent institutions and government arms, hence calling on them to pull together for better service delivery to the people. 

Ruto called for a more cordial relationship between the different arms of government and major institutions such as the National Police Service and the Judiciary.

"I am acutely aware that the National Police Service is an independent body, and so is the Judiciary, but ultimately, we have one master-the people of Kenya," emphasized Ruto. 

He reiterated his commitment to working with these institutions while respecting their independence to ensure Kenyans are well served.

The President said this at a time when the country is facing huge tests, especially on keeping law and order, and upholding the rule of the law. 

Ruto explained that although each institution has its mandate, collaboration between the institutions is important in guarding Kenya's democracy.

"We have a duty to defend our democracy and the rule of law," said Ruto, while calling for efforts to safeguard the integrity of independent institutions by ensuring they work together in the interest of the people.

The independence of the Judiciary and other bodies such as the National Police Service has remained one of the most key aspects of governance in Kenya.

The separation of powers in the 2010 Constitution of the country is so clear between the Executive, Judiciary, and Parliament. 

It has been tested in practice, and tensions between these arms of government sometimes boil over. 

Ruto's appeal is one to mend those gaps so that all concerned work toward a single objective: catering to the needs and aspirations of the Kenyan people.

The President's comments reflect the wider trend in Kenyan leadership, where there has been a quest for increased institutional cooperation while retaining autonomy.

Ruto added that the government should retain the public at the center of all its activities.

"We must make sure we work together toward serving Kenyans," he added, accentuating the importance of selfless service among government officials.
