William Oduol, MCAs battle to prove a point
By Peter Ochieng
Embattled Siaya Deputy Governor (DG) William Oduol's day of reckoning is here.
On Wednesday, the Senate ad-hoc committee investigating his impeachment, started sittings, which will run to Thursday.
Members of the County Aseembly (MCAs) led by their lawyers - Gordon Ogola, Willis Otieno and Peter Wanyama accused Oduol of gross violation of the constitution, abuse of office and gross misconduct, bullying and misleading the public by giving false information.
"The particulars of this allegation include bulldozing officers to renovate the Deputy Governor's Office outside approved budgetary provisions. Misusing public resources by facilitating officers to attend an irrelevant function," MCAs charges against the DG read, in part.
Advocate Otieno told the committee that Oduol caused the county government to spend Sh18 million for his 'personal comfort.'
He claimed the DG pushed the county to buy him a presidential chair at Sh1.12 million, besides soundproofing his office at a cost of Sh2 million.
However, Oduol through his lawyers denied all allegations levelled against him.
He is being represented by advocates Paul Nyamodi, Moses Chelanga and Patrick Baraza.
The committee is chaired by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator William Kisang.
Oduol will have proper time to demonstrate his innocent before the committee on Thursday.
Kisang's committee is expected to table it's report in the Senate on Monday, next week.
