Your performance is what counts, civil servants told

By Peter Ochieng

Bungoma governor Kenneth Lusaka wants civil servants to execute their roles and responsibilities diligently.

Lusaka said what counts in the public service is performance, which in turn opens avenues for one climbing up the career ladder.

Speaking while gracing the signing of performance contracts by senior Bungoma County Assembly staff, Lusaka lauded the move, adding that it provides room for hard work and accountability.

"Performance contracting is a very important management tool. It enhances service delivery and keeps us in check. It is good to set targets. What is measured gets done," said Lusaka.

He pledged to work closely with County Assembly leadership, to foster development and transformation.

"I urge executive members to maintain a cordial working relationship with the Assembly. They should always avail themselves whenever called upon for oversight."

Meanwhile, Bungoma Deputy Governor Jenipher Mbatiany has called on women leaders to mentor and empower girls.

Speaking in Nairobi during launch of the Kenya Girl Guides Bravo, Mbatiany pleaded with women in leadership positions to mentor and empower young girls, so that they take up their slots when they exit.

“I challenge those of us in leadership positions to stretch back our hands and mentor and empower girls to take over the mantle from us when we exit the stage,” she said.

She also called on women to unite, in order for them to succeed, especially politically.
