Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has downplayed Narc-Kenya Party leader Martha Karua’s decision to join the Azimio la Umoja coalition, claiming that it is inconsequential since she does not have a huge following.
Speaking during an interview with Citizen TVon Thursday morning, Senator Cherargei noted that going by the results of the 2013 presidential election, ODM leader Raila Odinga would have gained more value if former presidential candidate Mwalimu Abduba Dida would have joined the Azimio team in place of Karua.
In his view, Dida who secured over 50,000 votes in 2013 is more popular and has greater following than Karua who got around 43,000 votes.
“I don’t know why Martha Karua was playing hard to get, we always knew she had a soft heart towards Azimio. I have seen some people trying to allude that Martha Karua will bring value addition in terms of votes. In 2013 when she ran for Presidency, Abduba Dida defeated her. Dida had more than 50,000 votes, Karua had around 43,000 votes. If Azimio had welcomed Dida, he is doing much more than Karua,” Cherargei opined.

Regarding the Kirinyaga gubernatorial race where Karua has declared interest, Senator Cherargei expressed confidence that incumbent Governor Anne Waiguru will be re-elected, arguing that UDA is the party to beat in Mt Kenya.
“At the lowest level of course running for gubernatorial position in Kirinyaga, looking at things on the ground, she no longer has an upper hand of winning any seat of Mt Kenya because the region is leaning towards DP Ruto. In senate where we seat with colleagues, all senators from Mt Kenya have joined United Democratic Alliance (UDA), except one,” Cherargei said.
Meanwhile, Karua joined the Azimio brigade on Wednesday March 23, 2022 and promised to campaign for Odinga’s presidential bid.
“I’m here to confirm that from now onwards, Narc Kenya and I are supporting the Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga,” said the Narc-Kenya leader.
