National and Kisii County Government have been urged to create conducive environment for growth of Micro, Small and medium Enterprises in a bid to spur sustainable development in the area.

Speaking in Tabaka ward, South Mogirango Constituency, Kisii County, a renowned trader in soap stone artifacts appealed to the national government to refrain from overtaxing small businesses saying most of the MSMEs were struggling to remain afloat during the prevailing harsh economic times.

Daniel Ombasa Apepo one of the owners of Kisac Enterprise said over taxation was sending businesses out of the country and urged the government to consider moderating its revenue collection in its endeavor to finance the huge external and internal debts.

“Lowering the taxes will make the government to get more revenue but over taxation will make business shift location to other countries,” said Ombasa

Ombasa who is a former area Member of County Assembly, appealed to the two levels of Government to fast track development of infrastructure including roads, electricity connectivity and provision of modern machinery to soapstone mining locations to enable artisans carry out

their businesses with ease.

Ombasa noted there was urgent need to employ new technology in the industry and urged the government to come up with a kitty to boost the sector especially now that the Kenya shilling was losing value to the US dollar.

On the Hustler Fund, Ombasa said structures needed to be streamlined and sensitization on the process of acquiring the money carried out to ensure access to all those that are viable and at the needed amount.

The former MCA also applauded the County Government for introducing a new levy to those exporting raw material from the County saying it was creating market for locally made artifacts.
