DP Ruto speaks on preparations for UDA nominations

By Joshua Cheloti The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) will be holding its nominations on Thursday, April 14, 2022, across the country. UDA will be using the exercise to pick candidates that will fly the party ticket in various seats during the August 9 poll. And with just hours to the d-day, Deputy President William Ruto says they have made arrangements that will ensure a free and fair process. In a short video shared on his official Twitter handle, Ruto who is also the UDA party leader described the Thursday nominations as a ‘near elections’. He noted that the exercise will be held in 35 counties with at least 5,000 aspirants being involved. https://twitter.com/WilliamsRuto/status/1514187536557617155 “We have committed to a free, fair, and democratic process,” DP Ruto said. “We have made all arrangements, all ballot papers dispatched and they will be in polling stations early morning,” he added. The DP said they have mobilized all their support, Returning Officers, Presiding Officers, and Clerks in all the counties the UDA nominations will be held. “We expect the candidate will cooperate with the officials,” DP Ruto noted. UDA is today considered the biggest single political party in the country, and the most popular among Kenyans based on multiple opinion polls. According to DP Ruto, the nomination exercise that UDA will be conducting is the biggest the country has witnessed in its political history. The nomination will be held at a time the DP has intensified efforts to seek consensus among various aspirants. So far he has successfully negotiated for a consensus among gubernatorial aspirants in Nairobi and Kakamega, Kirinyaga senatorial race, and several Members of Parliament seats. The latest one is for the South Imenti seat where Churchill Show comedian MC Jessy agreed to drop out of the race in favor Mwiti Kathaara. “MC Jessy (Jasper Muthomi) will join the presidential campaign team after postponing his parliamentary bid in favor of Mwiti Kathaara for the South Imenti Seat,” Ruto tweeted.
