Churchill show comedian MC Jessy has stepped down from vying for the South Imenti parliamentary seat in the upcoming August 9, 2022, general elections.
MC Jessy whose official name is Jasper Muthomi was eyeing the Member of Parliament seat on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
But following a meeting with the UDA party leader who is also the Deputy President William Ruto, the popular comedian agreed to shelve his ambitions in favour of Mwiti Kathaara.

The agreement was announced by DP Ruto in a post on his official Twitter handle.
He said MC Jessy will be joining the Kenya Kwanza campaign team.
“MC Jessy (Jasper Muthomi) will join the presidential campaign team after postponing his parliamentary bid in favour of Mwiti Kathaara for the South Imenti Seat,” the DP tweeted.
Kathaara will now fly the UDA ticket and will face off with the current MP Kathuri Murungi who is seeking a third term.
MC Jessy was initially to vie for the MP seat on a Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi-led Development Empowerment Party (DEP) popularly known as ‘Mbus’ before joining UDA.
“It’s now clear where the vision is heading. After many days of consultative meetings with my South Imenti people, I have officially been invited to join UDA. The groundwork that has been done has finally landed on the side of the winning team,” he posted on his social media pages after meeting DP Ruto in January 2022.
“When I got the call from the Chief Hustler Inviting me, I had to heed my People’s call and his call to join the winning Team. And may the work of redefining South Imenti now begin,” he added.
The comedian first announced his entry into politics in November 2021.

His move to drop out of the race comes at a time DP Ruto has been holding consensus meetings with various aspirants.
On Tuesday, April 13, 2022, Ford Kenya’s Gideon Moreka also dropped out of the South Mugirango seat race, in support of the current MP Sylvanus Osoro.
“We honour Ford Kenya’s Gideon Moreka for his courage to forgo his parliamentary ambition and endorse @OsoroSylvanus for the South Mugirango seat. Mheshimiwa Moreka will now help in driving the Kenya Kwanza presidential campaigns,” Ruto tweeted.
