Bungoma County Governor Kenneth Lusaka says his greatest desire is to utilize his tenure to achieve solid and unshakable economic independence for the county.

He said his administration has started rolling out programs that will lead to the establishment of a 24 hour economy.

He said that the county has so far embarked on implementation of the farm fertilizers and seeds support program, the funded rural access road network program, the street lighting program, the drive to increase access to clean water and the primary health care accessibility program.

To secure food security for the county, Governor Lusaka is urging citizens to avoid over selling their harvest at low prices after harvesting.

“My administration is working on strengthening coffee and cotton production so as to increase the overall income for the residents,” said Lusaka.

In order to support agriculture, Lusaka told journalists on Tuesday that the County administration has embarked on improving the access road network within the entire county.

He said that Lusaka Road that had been neglected by the previous administration has been tarmacked and is now fully in use.

Lusaka said that, in Bungoma town, the county is rehabilitating two roads to open up sections of the town that have been impassable and improve trade.

“To have a 24-hour economy, requires that we light up streets and markets and provide a secure environment for trading beyond daylight time,” Lusaka said.

He said the County has so far spent Sh33 million towards installation of new street lighting in Bungoma town and another Sh20million in repairing the old street lights.

He said a modern market is being constructed at Kamkuywa at a cost of Sh35 million and is expected to be completed in the year 2024.

On industrialization, the county has partnered with the national government to set up an industrial park in Bungoma, in the coming financial year 2023/2024.

“The industrial park will be a complete game changer in our local and regional economy in terms of direct and indirect job creation and creating a market for some of the agricultural goods produced in the county, Lusaka said, adding that the department of water plans to roll out drilling of 45 boreholes.

“The primary health care is dear to my heart and the health department recently received drugs and non-pharmaceuticals worth Sh58 million that have been distributed across the county,” Lusaka said.
