By Peter Ochieng
Bungoma governor Kenneth Lusaka on Saturday flagged-off a team to represent the county in the 10th edition of the Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Associations (KICOSCA).
Meru county plays host to the 2023 edition of KICOSCA games from 20th to 26th August, 2023.
The Bungoma team will compete in eight sporting disciplines.
Lusaka urged his team to go out and be victorious.
"You're our flag bearers. Carry yourselves with decorum. You have what it takes, go forth and emerge victorious," he said.
He said his administration is being represented by best of the best, after the vetting committee did a commendable job.
"The vetting committee led by the Ministry of gender, culture, youth and sports has selected top notch. We are fully behind you."
KICOSCA games are held each year towards strengthening inter-county relations, promoting national cohesion and nurturing talents.
However, this year, the games are being held for the second time after the 9th edition was held in Kisumu in January.
Nairobi county emerged overall winners, ahead of Kisumu and Bungoma respectively.
Football, basketball, volleyball, athletics, cultural dance, folk songs and netball are among the most popular disciplines during KICOSCA games.
Meanwhile, Kisumu county deputy governor Mathews Ochieng Owili flagged of the county's boys and girld football teams for the Nyanza North Talanta Hela football tournament.
The tournament is on at the Kisumu day high school ground and Moi stadium this weekend.
Winner of the national event will take home Sh5 million.
Owilli advised the players to take the tournament seriously, and give their best.
"But above all you should be disciplined, play as a team and bring that Sh5 million o Kisumu."
Talent scouts have been deployed by the ministry of sports to scout for talented players, who will form the national team's Under-19 side.
