Governor Nyong'o banks on county staff to help him leave memorable legacy

Kisumu governor Anyang' Nyong'o is banking on county staff to help him leave behind a memorable legacy, when his time in office comes to an end in 2027.
Nyong'o is serving his second and last term, having been elected in 2017 and reelected in 2022.
The county staff he is expecting to assist him to leave Kisumu at a better place include County Chief Executive Committee Members (CECMs), Chief Officers and Directors.
Speaking on Monday morning during the aforementioned officers' induction at a Kisumu hotel, the county chief said whatever they put their hands on, going foward, must be a legacy project.
"As the governor of this county, I am on my second and final term. This means every project and services we do together must be a legacy project. I served the people of Kisumu well in the first term. Now, I want to leave a memorable legacy and nobody will help me do it if not yourselves," he said.
Nyong'o said work is already cut out for them, with improved revenue collection topping the what do to list.
"Our revenue is growing thin because we have not met our domestic revenue targets. In view of this, women and men, we will be banking on you to help us meet and even surpass our own source revenue targets. Your departments will be given revenue targets, which you will have to meet."
The former Senator said he believes the officers are in office to serve, and not to enrich themselves.
"I believe you all applied for all your respective positions because you wanted to serve the people. I do not think any of you here came to enrich himself or herself, if there is such a person here then they will be terribly disappointed," he added.
He urged them to use their skills and innovations to touch the lives of Kisumu residents.
