Makueni County Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr has warned that the government will prosecute civil servants who release government information to social media.

Mutula has issued the warning after he alleged that there are some civil servants releasing government information and documents well stamped to social media which is against the oath of secrecy.

In this regard, the governor urged those involved to stop and instead advised them to keep confidentiality of government information of which they are custodians.

“Whoever is releasing government information and documents to social media, should stop. You have done enough in giving information about the establishment,” warned Mutula at Green Park Hall in Wote town on Tuesday during the releasing of 2022/2023 performance contracting results.

“You might think you are spoiling one’s reputation, but instead find that you are ruining your own reputation,” he added.

Further he asked the county secretary to address the problem while saying he has evidence indicating those releasing confidential government information and documents to social media.

“I know where the information is coming from. I am quiet now, but people should not joke around with this lawyer. Mine is to keep evidence that is what I was trained to do. I am keeping evidence and at the right time, I will deal with this issue,” he warned.

During the function, the Department of Agriculture, Irrigation, Livestock and Fisheries was awarded a trophy for being the best in performance contracting for the 2022/2023 financial year.

Other Departments that were awarded trophies included Infrastructure and Energy and Devolution.

Among the SAGAs, Makueni Fruit Processing Authority, Sand Conservation and Utilization Authority and Wote Water and Sewerage Company respectively were awarded a trophy each.

While lauding the best performing departments, Mutula urged all departments to adhere to the performance contracting so as to ensure service delivery to the public as it is underlined in the constitution of Kenya.

Consequently, the governor challenged all Executive Committee Members (ECMs) spent the monies allocated to different departments on projects meant for in a bid to improve development in the county.

“I remind ourselves that the policies, programmes and projects implemented by all departments must be fully aligned to the agenda of this administration. Results are a reflection put in line with budgetary allocation. I urge all of us to make use of allocated funds to ensure there is value for money for the people we serve,” he observed.

Present included all ECMs of different departments, chief Officers and Directors among other government officials.
