Jalang'o to fly ODM flag in Lang'ata MP seat race
By Joshua Cheloti
Former radio presenter and comedian Phelix Odiwour, popularly known as Jalang'o has won the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) parliamentary seat nomination in Lang'ata.
Jalang'o was declared the winner following the ODM nominations held on Friday, April 22, 2022.
According to the final results for the Lang'ata MP nomination, the ex-radio presenter had 3,509 votes to win the ticket ahead of Oscar Omoke who had 1,612 votes.
ODM had six individuals that were seeking the ODM ticket in the Constituency.
The win now means Jalang'o will be facing off with the current MP Nixon Korir on the August 9 poll.
He will be the only MP candidate from Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition.
Korir will be seeking re-election through the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, and also a Kenya Kwanza Coalition candidate.
Talking to social media after winning the ODM ticket, the comedian-turned-politician thanked the voters for trusting in his leadership.
"God has given me the chance to fly the Azimio Flag in the August Elections!! Thank you Langata! We are one step in! Now the real work begins!! God above everything!!" Jalang'o posted on his official Instagram account.
The win puts to rest speculations over who would carry the ODM and Azimio flag in the Constituency.
There had been claims in the past few weeks that Jalang'o would be shortchanged after reports emerged that the certificate had been issued to another candidate.
Jalang'o resigned as a radio presenter at Kiss 100, where he was co-hosting the breakfast show with Kamene Goro, to pursue his political dreams.
In other results for the ODM nominations in Nairobi, blogger Robert Alai also won the ticket for Kileleshwa Ward.
Alai was declared the winner after getting 638 votes. His closest competitor Junior Tollo got 545 votes.
The blogger joined the Kileleshwa MCA seat race in the last minute, after shelving earlier plans to vie for the Nyando MP seat.
