Nambale MP Geoffrey Mulanya has expressed concern at the poor status of health facilities within the Sub County.
Speaking during the celebrations to mark the 60th Jamhuri day celebrations at Nambale Polytechnic grounds on Tuesday, Mulanya said that all the health facilities across the Sub County were not in good shape.
“The Nambale Sub County hospital is a level four facility and we do not want our people to be referred to Busia,” he said, adding that a source of water which was a major challenge has been provided through the support of NGCDF.
He asked Busia governor Paul Otuoma to ensure that the theatre within the facility becomes operational before the end of the year.
The MP further expressed concern at the level of filth in Nambale town adding that there is garbage everywhere.
“Tangakona shopping Centre has been closed down due to lack of sanitation facilities,” he said, adding that the market needs to be operational.
Mulanya at the same time urged the County government to join forces with his team and provide streetlights within Nambale town.
The official also complained about insecurity arguing that Nambale has become a dumping ground for people who have been hijacked from Busia town.
“People are being hijacked in Busia only to be killed at Segero,” he said, calling for the establishment of a police post in the area.
He at the same time urged the County Commissioner to address the issue of cane poaching adding it subjects local cane farmers to a lot of suffering.
“We have the Sugar Act and we do not want to close down factories,” he said, adding that cane farmers should not incur losses due to wrangles between sugar factories.
Busia Deputy Governor Arthur Odera said that the Sub County hospital should be operational for 24 hours a day.
Odera who doubles as the CEC Member for Health said that garbage collection in all the market centers will be carried out weekly so that the health of the residents is protected.
He urged the residents to volunteer information about those suspected to be stealing drugs from public health facilities.
