Nandi Governor Stephen Sang now says the war against illicit brew in his county is being frustrated by smuggled outlawed liquor from neighbouring counties.

Sang however commended the efforts of National Government Administrative officers in Nandi but insisted that their efforts to end outlawed brew is being watered down by their counterparts in neighbouring counties.

The Governor called on Nandi County Commissioner Caroline Nzwili to tighten security at all transportation networks along the borders and arrest all the illicit brew traffickers.

“I want to commend National Government Administrative officers in Nandi County for the efforts you have made to deal with illicit brew but your progress is being watered down by the failure of your counterparts in neighbouring counties to deal with illicit brew,” Sang told the residents, NGAO officers during the celebrations of Jamhuri Celebrations at DCCs grounds in Kobujoi, Nandi South Sub-County.

Sang called on National Government Administrative officers from counties of western to deal with the illicit brew believed to be illegally trafficked at the borders.

“What are the National Government Administrative officers from neighbouring counties doing to deal with the source of illicit brew that is finding its way into Nandi County?” Governor Sang questioned.

He asked Commissioner Nzwili to crack down on transportation networks believed to thrive in the illicit brew business because the source was from the neighbours.

“We are telling our neighbours, for us to succeed in this fight, all National Government Administrative Officers across the region must work together,” Sang said.

Sang promised that the County Government of Nandi will offer needed assistance to ensure the war against illicit brew is won in Nandi and across the region.

The Governor however warned bar owners applying extension of operating hours past 11 o’clock during this festive season that their request will be declined.

“There is no extension that will be given to bar owners and must close their bars at prescribed hours,” Sang directed.

Commissioner Nzwili on her part applauded Governor Sang and the security committee for declining the extension of bar operating hours saying it will reduce accidents due to careless driving and burglary.

The CC said police are on high alert this festive season to ensure residents celebrate the season peacefully.

She revealed that the county security committee succeeded in breaking a burglary syndicate ring which operated in Nandi and Uasin Gishu counties by arresting key suspects.

Nzwili however called on the residents to put necessary measures to ensure their safety and always have security agencies to contact when an emergency arises.

This year’s Jumuhuri county celebrations were held in Nandi South Sub-County with local leaders and residents who spoke calling for more development projects especially those that engage jobless youths in the region.
