Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has called out Nyeri media for allegedly painting the country’s Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in bad light.

Speaking in at the Gathiuru Forest station where he accompanied Lands and Public Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome during the National Tree Growing exercise, the governor singled out Inooro vernacular radio and TV station for supporting other media houses in the country in soiling Gachagua’s name.

“If you find your own media house on fire, do you fan the fire or do you put it out?” posed Kahiga.

“We have a situation where the Deputy President Rugathi Gachagua, our son, is being attacked in other parts of the country and when he comes to his own backyard, you (the media) are also giving him negative coverage instead of trying to help the situation. Is that really fair?'' continued the county boss.

Kahiga has instead asked the members of the Fourth Estate to embrace the current administration and to focus on the achievement realized by the government. Additionally, he asked the press to brace itself for the 5 years under the leadership of President William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua.

“At the end of the day, there is nothing much you will achieve because he is the second in command for the next five years and he will continue to be our leader for many other years to come,” stated Kahiga.

The governor was also accompanied by Central Regional Commissioner Fredrick Shisia, County Commissioner Pius Murugu, Kieni legislator Wainaina Njoroge Cieni and a host of heads of department and staff from national government ministries and state agencies where a total of 10,000 seedlings were planted.

Terming the tree growing exercise as the best example of the power of collaboration between the national government and the county governments, Kahiga reiterated his commitment to working closely with the national government to improve the welfare of the citizens.

“This initiative is a testament to the power of collaboration. Governments and communities have come together to turn a vision into tangible reality. The county government of Nyeri is working closely with the national government because the common mwananchi is not interested in whether work was done by the national or county; they just want services to be delivered,” said Kahiga.
