As learners are set to take a long break from school, parents have been advised to protect them from misuse of mobile phones during this period.

The newly posted Homa Bay Deputy County Commissioner Charles Mwayaya implored the parents to monitor what their children consume on the mobile devices while at home.

He said mobile phones, especially smart phones, expose children to harmful content which may negatively influence their behaviour and in turn strip them of their innocence.

The DDC noted it is their responsibility to watch over their children while at home and not the police.

“Do not expect that the police and the chiefs will come to your home to protect your children when it is your responsibility as parents to ensure your children go back to school in January in one piece,” he warned.

The DCC further told parents and guardians to protect the children against substance abuse and illegal brews adding, “Please safeguard the children well because we do not want to find out that our girls have returned to school pregnant and our boys are abusing substances.”

On the upcoming national exams, Mr Mwayaya asked chiefs to take care of any disturbances that may affect candidates while sitting for their examinations which are slated to begin on 27 of this month.

He instructed them to be alert and ensure that there is no noise disturbances from any business premises that may affect the candidates during this period of exams and revision.
