Simba Arati: GSU officers block governor from office

General Service Unit (GSU) officers on Monday morning raided Kisii governor Simba Arati's offices, located at the Gusii Stadium.

The governor reportedly arrived at his office only to meet a contingent of GSU officers, whom, according to witnesses blocked his entrance.

Gusii Stadium hosts his secondary office.

The first term county boss on Sunday alleged that police were planning to raid his office and home at night.

He 'invited' them to appear during the day so that 'they don't plant guns' at his home and offices.

"They want to come at night so that they can plant guns in my house," the former legislature claimed.

It is not clear why police are persuing him. However, the governor is allegedly under the radar for 'corruption and hooliganism.'

The county boss has over the past few years had a frosty relationship with Silvanus Osoro, the Majority chief whip in the national assembly.

Osoro warned that police officers will camp in the county to tame what her termed as hooliganism.

Arati, the former Dagoretti South Member of Parliament (MP) has been at loggerheads with some leaders in president William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza administration.

Weeks ago, the governor said he cannot agree with someone who says the government is like a company with shareholders, sentiments directed at deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.

"Someone whom we can not stand with is that person who hurls insults at us. We are Kenyans and not outsiders. The person who talks about shares tells us to behave so that we can get our security back," said Arati.

Gachagua had called on Azimio governors to 'behave' before their security is returned.

Their security was withdrawn at the height of anti-government protests early this year.

In September, the vocal politician was named ODM party deputy chairperson, replacing former Kisii women representative Janet Ong'era.
