Travellers to get visas upon arrival over attack on e-citizen

By Peter Ochieng

Kenyan bound travellers will get their visas upon arrival in the country.

This is as a result of challenges in processing visa endorsements, via the e-Citizen platform.

The platform is currently not up and running, due to what Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Information, Communication and Technology Eliud Owalo said was an attempted cyber attack.

Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Principal Secretary (PS) Korir Sing'oei, said visitors will get visas upon arrival in the country.

"There is currently a challenge in the government e-Citizen platform, which is impacting processing of e-visa. Therefore, travelers will be issued visa upon arrival at all entry points to Kenya," he said in a statement.

CS Owalo in a separate statement said their have been unsuccessful attacks targeting both government and private sectors, for the past one week.

"The e-citizen platform is among the targets of these unsuccessful attempts to overload the system through extraordinary requests," said Owalo.

He assured Kenyans that the platform will be back to optimal utilisation levels within the shortest time possible.
