Vihiga CC calls for collaborative efforts to uphold security

Vihiga County Commissioner Felix Watakila has called for multi-sectorial collaboration in tackling security issues.

 Watakila stated that December being a month of end-of-the-year festivities, it is incumbent upon the security apparatus including the various police formations to collaborate with National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) and the public to ensure the upholding of law and order.

The CC, who was addressing the county security meeting committee that included the civilian representatives, decried the rampant criminal activities such as mugging, robbery, assault and sexual violence.

He attributed the insecurity situation to the widespread sale and consumption of illicit brews and idleness among the youth.

Consequently, Watakila directed the security agencies to continue cracking down on the peddling of chang’aa and other harmful substances that were responsible for breeding criminals in the communities.

On her part, Vihiga sub county Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Florence Sitawa asked the local National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO) fraternity to exercise a high level of discipline and integrity while executing their duties regardless of the social status of the clients.

She urged the Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs to ensure that the people within their areas of jurisdiction abide by the laws and regulations of the government of Kenya.

Hamisi Sub County bodaboda chairman Walter Kegode appealed to the police to assist them to weed out those operating without identification numbers in a bid to streamline the sector.

He also stated that they are willing to share information on the bad elements in their midst with the security agencies, so as to foster peace and security for the realization of socio-economic development.
