Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has expressed his frustration with the demanding football calendar, calling the fixture schedule "absurd" and "crazy."

Silva, who has been a key player for Manchester City and the Portuguese national team, expressed his concern about the stress the players are facing, both physically and mentally.

In an interview with Record, Silva acknowledged the privileged position that professional footballers hold but emphasized that the size of the match schedule is becoming increasingly difficult.

"When players complain, people say that players can't complain about the life they have... they're right, we're making dreams come true, and we're doing what we love. That's right," Silva admitted.

However, he quickly pointed out the other side of the controversy, saying, "On the other hand, the schedule is absolutely insane."

Silva pointed to a recent example involving Manchester City's upcoming matches.

The team will face Arsenal in an important Premier League match and will have only one day off before the League Cup game against Watford.

"We have received news that we only have one day off for the League Cup game. We are playing Arsenal, we rest for one day, then we will play again against Watford," he explained, emphasizing the small recovery time between high-stakes matches.

The midfielder went on to explain how a packed schedule could be extended for months if teams remain in multiple competitions.

"If we don't get released, we play every three days for months. It's been absolutely absurd, it's just crazy," Silva said, exasperated.

Silva also hinted at the necessity of the UEFA Champions League.

Even if a team fails to qualify for the knockout stage, it still has to play additional matches in the group stage.

"In the Champions League, if you don't qualify for the round of 16... you still have to play two more games!" He said, further highlighting the tough schedule the players face.

While he admits that larger squad sizes give teams more flexibility, Silva stressed that the demands placed on players remain very tough.

"It wasn't easy, believe me," he said, adding that the endless schedule leaves him with little time to spend with his family.

Silva's comments have sparked an ongoing debate about player welfare and the need for reform in an increasingly crowded football calendar.

As the big players continue to speak out, the pressure is increasing on the governing bodies of football to find a balance between commercial interests and the welfare of the players.
