Police in Kitengela have arrested 20 bodaboda operators and impounded 26 motorcycles involved in the recent stoning of a vehicle that hit five people.
The operation was conducted Friday, by the OCS Kitengela, DCI personnel and a team of regular police officers, in response to an incident that occurred within Kitengela township on 18/1/2024 reported vide OB 98/18/01/2024.
The 20 operators are all set to be charged with assault and malicious damage of property at the Kajiado Law courts on Monday.
According to the police report, Nissan Juke Reg. No. KDG 265E reportedly hit a motorcycle, en route to Kitengela, injuring a pillion passenger in the process along the Kitengela-Athi River road.
The report further indicates that the driver of the vehicle, Conex Kemunto Onengo, then sped off towards Namanga general direction through the Arusha service lane and hit pedestrian Bernard Mutinda, aged 32 years, injuring him on the left leg below the knee and his son Hashley Baraka aged 4 years who complains of chest pains.
“She then drove towards the Old Namanga Road and hit an unknown motorcycle, which the rider escaped, injuring the pillion passenger Damaris Wandia aged 28 years, who is expectant, on the left leg and bruises on both hands," read part of the police report.
Kemunto reportedly injured another pedestrian before encountering rowdy boda boda operators at Enkare who blockaded the road and surrounded her vehicle.
She then hit a pedestrian, Joseph Mutiso Wambua, injuring his right leg and right shoulder. She then drove through Tarmac Road, exiting the Shell Petrol Station at Enkare, where the vehicle was blocked by rowdy boda boda riders.
The boda boda riders pelted the car with stones and was extensively damaged as efforts to stop them by two traffic police officers were futile.
