A lone buffalo yesterday invaded Masalani town in Ijara Sub County of Garissa County scaring residents.

Confirming the incident, Ijara Sub County KWS warden Mr. Adan Alio said the buffalo was elderly and dangerous and fears were that it could kill and destroy property.

He said in the animal kingdom, the buffalos always chased away an elderly or weak member hence it had to seek survival away from the herd.

He said combined efforts of KWS officers and rangers from Northern Rangelands Trust of Ishaqbini Conservancy rounded up the buffalo and took it to the conservancy.

The warden appealed to residents to eradicate mathenge trees which the wild animals and snakes have made their habitation perceiving it to be forest. He noted that the mathenge tree has colonized the area and even blocked roads as they destroy the tarmac with their roots.

Alio appealed to general public to cut the mathenge tree in their homesteds so that they could be safe from wild animals straying from the bush to town.

He, at the same time, appealed to Garissa County government to eradicate the mathenge menace in Masalani town and Ijara constituency as a whole.

He further appealed to residents to report such stray animals to the KWS before causing mayhem and destruction.
