Narok East Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Lawrence Kinyua has called on Christians and Muslims to uphold peace after a confrontation ensued between the two religious groups.
The clash began after a vehicle ferrying two Muslim men who were traveling from Naivasha, developed a mechanical problem at Suswa prompting the duo to spend a longer time in the area.
The DCC reported that the two Muslim men held a road side preaching, where they used a bible and a Quran to lure people to join the Muslim faith, while condemning the Christian faith.
In the process, the two allegedly accused Christian preachers of misleading their followers for financial gains.
The roadside preaching apparently did not go well with Christians at the Suswa Trading center, who opted to hold demonstrations to protest against such kind of propaganda.
The exchange between members of the two religious groups later escalated into sharp division amongst the residents, with some opting not to purchase goods from shops owned by the local Muslims.
Following the tension, the area DCC held a peace meeting between leaders of the two faiths, where they agreed that no person would use religion to incite other people.
During the meeting, members of the Christian Faith were led by Pastor Moses Mututwa while those of the Islamic faith were led by Hassan Mohamed Ibrahim.
Pastor Mututwa asked the Muslims brothers to desist from propagating messages that tinted the Christian fraternity as demonic.
On his part, Ibrahim regretted the unfortunate incident, saying the two men were on their way to Narok and only took advantage to preach in the area after their vehicle developed a mechanical breakdown.
He regretted that since the incident occurred, businesses owned by Muslims have suffered huge losses as the residents have kept off from the shops.
The Muslim leader asked members of the local community to continue embracing a brotherhood spirit as they had done in the past.
