Campus secure after shooting call at University of Oklahoma: police
HOUSTON
April 7 (Xinhua)
By Xu Jianmei,
The University of Oklahoma's Norman campus is secure and there is no threat to the community, authorities said more than an hour after an active shooter was reported present Friday night.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the campus is secure, while university police issued an all-clear, adding that "after a thorough search, no threat was found."
There is still a heavy police presence on campus.
Earlier on Friday night, the university's official account tweeted, "there is an active shooter at the Van Vleet Oval. Take immediate action now. Run. Hide. Fight!"
Some 40 minutes later, it tweeted again that university police "continues to investigate possible shots fired on Norman campus," and asked people to "continue sheltering in place."
According to media reports, university police said later that there was no evidence that a shooting occurred, and no injuries were reported, and that the incident might have been a hoax.
"A first responder confirmed that one was shot in the stomach," reported local media outlet KFOR.
