Counterfeit alcoholic drinks, KRA stamps impounded

Detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have impounded a consignment of counterfeit alcoholic drinks and a roll of fake Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) stamps.
They were recovered at Kahawa Sukari and Kamulu areas of the the Capital, Nairobi.
DCI in a statement said the consignment was impounded in an operation known as Uchumi.
"In a raid conducted by detectives from the Economic Crimes unit and officials from KRA, 1078 bottles of counterfeit alcoholic drinks, one roll of counterfeit KRA stamps, 630 litres of ethanol, 10,300 empty bottles and four sacks of assorted bottle caps were recovered," noted DCI.
"The value of the seized ethanol and alcoholic drinks is estimated at over Sh500,000 while the counterfeit stamps are worth Sh4 million. A seizure notice was issued and the goods impounded as detectives investigate the source of the ethanol and the fake KRA stamps."
DCI did not share information about any arrests made.
Meanwhile, four suspects linked with disappearance of mobile phones within the City have been arrested by detectives.
Malumasi Aisha and Agaba Anestus Majuni both of from neighboring Uganda, were arrested alongside Sarah Njeri and her sister Mary Wangui.
"Malumasi, who was the first to be cornered, was found with a parcel of 13 smart phones believed to destined for the black market in Uganda. She then led the sleuths to shop E17 located at Munyu Business center, where her accomplices Sarah Wangari and Mary Wangui were busy receiving other stolen mobile phones," DCI said.
After interrogation, the suspects led the detectives to a fourth suspect, Agaba Majuni, who was waiting for the package destined for Uganda at the Simba Coach bus station.
