County hospital renamed Michael Wamalwa memorial

The Trans Nzoia County Teaching and Referral Hospital will henceforth be known as Michael Wamalwa Memorial, in honour of the former Vice President.
Michael Kijana Wamalwa died on a day like this is 2003, while serving as Vice President under the National Alliance Rainbow Coalition (NARC) administration.
Wamalwa was Kenya's 8th Vice President. He was a native of Trans Nzoia County.
Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya in a statement on Wednesday said the change of the hospital's name will serve as a long lasting tribute to his legacy.
"It is with great pride and humility that we rename Trans Nzoia County Teaching and Referral Hospital to the Michael Wamalwa Memorial Hospital. This hospital, now bearing his name, will serve as a lasting tribute to his legacy and a beacon of hope for the people of this region," said Natembeya.
"Today, we solemnly commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the departure of our hero, Michael Wamalwa Kijana. As we reflect on this significant day, I cannot help but recall the invaluable counsel, astute leadership, and unwavering dedication he brought to our nation during his time," he added.
He said Wamalwa's role in advancing multiparty democracy lives on.
"Michael Wamalwa Kijana's pivotal role in advancing the cause of multiparty democracy in our country stands as a testament to his enduring legacy. His vision and commitment to a more inclusive political landscape have left an indelible mark on our nation's history."
Michael Christopher Kijana Wamalwa died while receiving treatment at a hospital in London, United Kingdom.
