CS Malonza pledges to help market Kisumu tourist sites
The 2023 Fish Fiesta in Kisumu County is officially on.
The event is part of a marketing strategy employed by the County, under the Kisumu My Pride Campaign.
It is ongoing at the Hippo Point public beach. Curtains come down on Sunday.
Speaking during the official launch at Hippo point on Friday, Peninah Malonza, Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage pledged to vigorously help market tourism attraction sites in Kisumu County.
"I will work closely with your governor Anyang' Nyong'o to help market tourism attraction sites in this County. We want to support an industry that will support locals, for improved livelihoods," she said.
Some of the tourism attraction sites in Kisumu include Kit Mikayi, Impala Sanctuary and the Kisumu Museum.
Additionally, CS Malonza thanked President William Ruto and Azimio leader Raila Odinga for agreeing to dialogue through a Parliamentary bi-partisan approach, which has inturn led to return to normalcy in parts of the country, especially Nairobi and Kisumu.
The two Counties were the face of violent protests, before the demos were called off by Odinga on Sunday.
Deputy Governor Mathews Ochieng Owili said it is easy for one to access various attraction sites within the Western circuit, from Kisumu.
"From here, one can easily access the Kakamega forest, Maasai Mara, Ruma National Park in Homabay and Thimlich Ohinga in Migori County," he said.
Farida Salim, Kisumu County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Tourism, Trade, Industry and Marketing said the Fish Fiesta is a signature tourism event.
The event will witness a host of competitions go down, including tug of war and boat racing for both men and women.
Before launching the Fish Fiesta at Hippo Point, CS Malonza and DG Owili among others toured a section of tourist sites along Lake Victoria, using the Water Bus.
