Cyclists from five countries from East African Community region are cycling across the five countries courtesy of Great Africa Cycling Safari.
The journey which started on August 1st in Jinja, Uganda will end in Uganda on September 25 lasting for 55 days.
According to Chief Executive Officer, Great Africa Cycling Safari Paul Kalongo of Uganda they planned to traverse Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi as well as DRC Congo
He further said the purpose of the cycling across the countries forming East African Community is to sensitize the community within these countries about the adverse effects of global climatic changes.
While in Loitoktok on their way to Tanzania, Kalongo noted that they were also sensitizing the communities about the East African Community.
He added that through the project, they were highlighting the importance and benefits of the unity of the five nations.
Kalongo called upon the residents from the five countries to cultivate unity for mutual development.
The CEO noted they were covering on average about 120 km daily and by the end of the exercise, they would have covered over 6000 km.
Chiza Obedi, a cyclist from Burundi appreciated the exercise of transversing the five countries adding that they were able to sensitize the communities within East African Community to live as one nation and be united.
Obedi further noted that they preferred using bicycles rather than vehicles because they could be seen by the communities they were sensitizing when cycling.
Michael Langat from Kenya said they were sensitizing the communities to be united and also plant trees to cushion the countries they represented from harsh effects of climate change.
