The Nakuru County Government Department of Health on Tuesday received the 2022 Demographic and Health Survey report from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KBS) and pledged to use the data in making decisions that influence the delivery of quality services.
While receiving the report the County Executive Committee Member for Health Ms. Roselyn Mungai said the extensive survey was valuable in assisting the Department to strategize, evaluate, and improve programs to ensure better service delivery.
She noted that health data provides a foundation for evidence-based decision-making, and policies formulated on concrete data are more likely to be effective in addressing the specific health challenges faced by the residents.
Also, she said the health data allows for ongoing monitoring and evaluation of health programs and initiatives, which helps in assessing the effectiveness of implemented strategies and making necessary adjustments to optimize outcomes.
Ms. Mungai reiterated the importance of understanding the health needs of the population through data analysis to assist in the fair allocation of resources, leading to increased efficiency and cost savings.
She added that the usage of statistics is especially important in healthcare systems with limited resources.
Additionally, she said access to data can empower communities by providing them with information about their health status, which encourages proactive health-seeking behaviors because informed communities are better equipped to actively participate in their healthcare and well-being.
Acknowledging the crucial role of KNBS, she emphasized the essential part health data would play in the successful implementation of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) that guarantees every Kenyan has access to the health services they need without suffering financial hardships.
