DCI adresses Backlog of Police clearance certificates

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has announced a backlog of police clearance certificate applications as a result of APFIS system downtime.
In a Press statement released on Saturday, The Unit said that the backlog had been resolved in September, 2023 leaving a huge backlog of over 600,000 police clearance applications.
"We are currently having a huge backlog of police clearance certificate applications stretching back to April this year as a result of APFIS system downtime
The Breakdown issue was resolved in September, 2023 leaving a backlog of over 600,000 police clearance applications against a daily applications ranging between 13,000 to 15,000" A part of the statement read.
However, the DCI has announced that the Principal Criminal registrar has adopted new measures to deal with the backlog which includes incorporating both automated and manual processing of the appropriations whilst the Forensic Fingerprint Identification Bureau (FFIB) are working throughout the week including weekends to resolve the backlog.
The DCI said that it is currently processing the clearance certificates on a first in first put basis while it highly consider special cases like overseas medical treatment, Scholarships and booked flights.
Additionally, officers at the DCI headquarters and the Huduma Center (DCI Desk) are also sorting out special cases applications separately from the rest and submitting them for urgent processing to ensure timely response.
The DCI noted that as a result of its special case consideration, it has reduced the pile up from 635,000 to 390,778 applications as of 10th November, 2023.
