Deputy governor mourns former Nation photojournalist

Kisumu deputy governor Mathews Ochieng Owili has extended a message of condolence to the family of Tonny Hillary Omondi.
Tonny, a former Nation Media Group (NMG) photojournalist died on Sunday evening at the Kimilili Sub County hospital, in Bungoma county.
He reportedly succumbed to asthma.
In his message, Owili said Tonny's love for the camera was unrivaled.
"While the media has lost a gem, his journalistic integrity will forever remain an integral part of his achievements, his passion and love for the camera were outstanding. In my many interactions with the fourth estate, Tonny stood out for his positivity and fearless journalism well documented through his lenses in the leading dailies," said the deputy governor.
"To the family, friends and colleagues, no words can express the level and extent of our sorrow for the loss of your loved one. On my behalf and the people of Kisumu, I extend my deepest sympathies following the untimely loss."
Tonny Omondi, for years served as NMG photographer at the Media House's Kisumu Bureau.
He left towards the end of last year to join Kimilili MP Didymus Barasa's communications team.
Barasa's is allegedly eyeing the Bungoma gubernatorial seat in 2027.
The second term MP had not released a statement, at least publicly over Tonny's demise, at the time of going to press.
Tonny Omondi is a native of Siaya County.
He is survived by a wife and three young children.
