East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Hassan Sarai has asked the legislators who are criticizing the Finance Bill 2023 and the Housing Fund to do so with facts and not just propaganda meant to mislead Kenyans.

Sarai said Azimio Members of Parliament that were opposing the Finance Bill 2023 yet have no concrete information to give to Kenyans on why the bill is not suitable but are pushed by selfish political interests that are only meant to disrupt the performance of the current government.

Speaking during the launch of amplified youth, a socio-economic organization by the Mombasa county UDA party youth group, the legislator who is also the United Democratic Alliance Vice-chairperson said that the time for politics is over and the opposition leaders should give President William Ruto a chance to deliver his promises to Kenyans.

He reiterated that Ruto has put in place measures to take the country forward and Kenyans should have trust in him that he cannot empty their pockets as he is a hustler like many of the citizens.

“The president is out to ensure he delivers on his development agenda and this bill will actualize the manifesto of the Kenya Kwanza government,” he said.

He said the housing levy is not a tax but a way to help those with no appropriate houses to get proper accommodation.

“This is your money and it will benefit you later when you grow old. Let us support those without pay slips to get houses,” he said.

UDA nominated Senator Miraj Abdillah said that they were behind President Ruto as he has initiated several development projects in the country which have been successful.

Abdillah said both the Finance Bill and the Housing Fund therein were meant to favour the common citizen thus urging the people not to worry as it was for their own good.

“People have been misled into believing that a huge chunk of their income will go to the housing fund. This is not true because for instance, if you are earning a monthly income of Sh 10,000, the 3 per cent deduction is approximately Sh 300,” she said.

She assured Kenyans that this is just a new way of ensuring they are saving more but there is no new tax that the government has introduced.
