As the family of the late university student Ann Kambura continues to mourn their daughter who was raped and brutally murdered by unknown suspects, Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki has stepped in to give the deceased a befitting burial.

The Governor who was represented by the CEC, Gender and Special Needs Kelly Karimi Rwigi ensured that the late Kambura received a decent burial by paying all the funeral bills and donating an electric wheelchair to a family member who is living with disability.

The 21 year Kirri Women’s University student was laid to rest at her home in Mpukoni village, Magumoni Ward, Tharaka Nithi County Friday, in an event where a number of county government officials were present to pay their last respects.

Kambura, who had barely completed her certificate course in human resource management went missing after she headed to the salon to do her hair in preparation for going back to school on May 12, 2023. She was later found raped, murdered and dumped in a well in the neighbourhood.

Kambura who was the firstborn and a mother of one, left a hollow ache among the villagers especially her parents who are currently dealing with Ann’s younger sibling with special needs as she developed the disability just when her star had started to shine.

Representing the Governor, Kelly Rwingi assured the family that the Tharaka Nithi County government would give them full support and would ensure that their daughter gets justice.

“As women, we are tired of giving birth to children, educate them with difficulties only for them to end up being murdered in cold blood,” said the CEC adding, “We are tired to see our sons who were raised religiously sinking in alcohol and involving themselves in crime.”

She further decried the kind of wastage children were getting into and lamented that if this trend continues, in the future the county will be importing workers from beyond their county boundaries.

“The governor has sent me to give this family his condolences and deliver this electric wheelchair, which will help this special kid to enjoy the privileges of movement like other children,” she said while giving the electric wheelchair to the mother adding that she hopes the mother would be able to work and take care of the deceased daughter’s child.

She further disclosed that the late Kambura’s daughter and her special sister would be registered under the special needs’ department where they would be able to receive free treatment in all hospitals.

Present during the burial was the Magumoni ward administrator Alexander Kithantha commonly known as ‘Wafesto’ who expressed his condolences and promised the family that the administration would not rest until Kambura gets justice.

" It is very sad to see the community losing such young people. Ann here is my daughter. I have seen her grow and I have seen how her mum has been struggling to handle her disabled child. I want to tell those who did this action, I know you are right here among us. We will not rest until we arrest all of you and serve Kambura with justice,” said the ward administrator who confirmed that they would continue to work with the police and the National Government Administration Officers to arrest the suspects.

Also present was Magumoni ward MCA Justin Kithinji who disclosed that he had received leaks about an illicit brew which is being sold by one family in a place called Bondo where it is believed all the evils executed in the village were being cooked.

“I have heard that there is one specific family at Bondo which does not educate its children and they end up selling illicit brew and this is where all these evils are being planned. I must say I will ensure we destroy the business and also request transfer of police officers to get a new team that will help us destroy illicit brewing in our ward,” stressed the MCA.
